Sit Back And Relax, You're Home!

Here are six easy ideas to make any home feel comfortable the minute you step through the door.
  • Have a doormat inside and out, they make everyone feel welcome.
  • Buy several large, white pillar candles. Light them, then blow them out. This automatically gives the impression of warmth, and makes a home feel that it is lived in (an unlit wick will have the opposite effect).
  • A blanket draped on a sofa always invites you to sit down, put your feet up and relax.
  • Piles of magazines, catalogs or books are just asking to be picked up and looked at.
  • Get personal. Display something that you love, that reveals (or explains) who you are. A word, a painting, an object?
  • Always have live plants and/or flowers in your home. Their natural energy helps to create a balanced, peaceful environment

Wendy,
I just had to come over from http://associationofdesigneducation.wordpress.com after reading your nice reply on my comment.
I fully agree on all the 6 ideas how to make a home providing an welcome feeling for guest or just for yourself.
I most of times have a scented candle burning. It gives the room a nice scent accordingly to the season of the year.
But what provides in my home the most comfortable feeling is the fireplace. Nothing is more inviting to sit down and relax than listening to the cracking of burning wood and watching the flames eating on the wood. Not even to mention the comfortable warmth. Unfortunately I'm living in an region (SE Texas) where we don't have very many cold days, not even in the winter time. But for those days when lighting the fireplace would make the house too hot, I simply exchange the wood one the crate with about 10 short white pillar candles and I light them.
